The national football league dates way back in the 1920′s but the famous Shield logo or as many refer to it just as the NFL logo has been created about 20 years later and it has stayed almost the same all these years.let us take a look back at the NFL logo history.

In 1940 the first NFL logo was created and it looked like this :

as you can see the logo is made of a shield with 25 stars in the upper level.above them there is a football or pigskin as they used to call it back in the day.some people in those days used to call the football the hamburger because it is resembling two buns and a hamburger in between. in the bottom part of the design there’s the initial NFL that stands for National Football league.the entire design is made only with three colors. red,blue and white, much like the American flag.

It has been said that the NFL logo shield is meant to symbolize the pride that this game has. it is also to symbolize the power and intensity of the game. when you look at a shield you feel proud to be part of the league and it gives a sense of superior.The colors of the NFL logo are carefully selected to match the united states flag. this gives the logo its nationality and there is no mistake when watching it you know it is an American sport. the red font letters NFL are in bright red to give the league its supremacy.this logo served the NFL up until 2008 when the league decided it was time to update it.

in 2008 the NFL logo was redesigned to this :

You can see the shield got thinner and leaner.with a darker shade of blue.they decreased the stars from 25 to 8 same as the 8 divisions in the league.the “hamburger ball” is now more 3d like and looks more like a football then a meal. the text changed his font to a sharp one. no more curved corners and this is to symbolize professionalism.they kept the colors the same : red, blue and white and you can also see the changes are small tweaks because they didn’t want to lose their historical touch that the NFL is so proud of and still show they value the tradition.The NFL logo is one of the most recognizable logos in the world and the NFL is doing a great job at marketing it. over the years the league had designed lots of NFL logos and although i was unable to find who designed the original logo i can say that Jamie Weston who is the NFL director of brand and creative had a lot to do with it.

So the football season is almost over. in about ten days the big game will come and go…no matter who wins that’s not the point of this article, we are sure it will be a great game and the best team will win. but we want to focus on another matter. when arriving to the 4 of Feb, no more football games no more Sunday night football or Monday night. for all our football fans this will be a sad day. so i decided to write a few suggestions to the day after the super bowl.

a great way to spend those sundays without a game is to watch a football movie. here are some of the best that i know of :

1 : Friday night lights : this is a great movie a true classic about a high school football team and growing up – it also has a TV show that has been really successful. i recommend it.the TV show is better then the movie in my opinion but some will disagree.

2: Any given sunday – maybe the best football movie ever made. watch it. you wont regret it. great cast : al pacino . jamie foxx and more

3 : Remember the titans : a true story on the terrible accident that killed the entire titans football team and their story of making it against all odds. this is a must see for a true football fan.

4 : The longest yard : a funny football movie with Adam sandler but a great one non the last. it is more a light comedy style movie but it is worth a watch any way.

5 : Rudy : again a tru classic. the amazing tale of friends as one of them gets cancer and the other one supports him all the way on and off the field.

6 : The second string : an OK movie. not the greatest ever but if you have nothing better to watch. it is still a solid football movie.

7: Jerry maquier : another classic. Tom cruise maybe in his best movie ever. the life of a football players agent as he suddenly grows a conscious and start to care about his players. leaving him with only one.

i could go on and on about american football movies but this is not the place. I’m sure you all have your sources of getting good movies.

 Super bowl 47 -

Like any year and every season. we eventually come to the season finally and the super bowl. this year the Baltimore ravens and the San Fransisco 49ers made it all the way to meet in the final showdown at new Orleans for super bowl 47.

After the 2012 season that was considered a great year. expectations were high from the team.the 49ers re-signed the not so great quarterback Alex smith. and they also got the legendary Randy Moss and Mario Manning-ham for their offensive side.the start was good.really good, they after half of season behind them they were at 6-2 wining big.at week 10 after suffering from a concussion against the saint Louis rams Quarterback Alex smith left the team and left the position for the second year man Colin Kaepernick.the game ended in a tie ( the first one for the 49ers in over 20 years ).

in the next game Kaepernick led the team to a blowout victory against the Chicago bears 32-7. the head coach was impressed and decided  to give him another chance. Colin started the next game against the new Orleans saint although Alex smith was healthy. he led the team to a win 31-21 and landed the starting position. they went and finished the season with a 11-4 record during the playoff’s kaepernick exploded on the field against the green bay packers with a 45-31 win and a new NFL record of 181 rushing yards that is the most for a quarterback ever in a single game.in the NFC championship they defeated the Atlanta falcons and made their way to super bowl 47. 

The Baltimore ravens started the year with an impressive 9-2 winning record in-spite to massive injuries on the defense side.after this they suffered a three game loosing streak but still made it to the playoff and finished the year with a 10-6 record. the media started writing about their ability to win matches as the ravens always considered a loosing  team. they prove everybody wrong when crushing the defending super bowl champions the new york giants 33-14 and won the division title for the second straight year.this year will be remembered as the last year for Ray Lewis after he announced his retirement after this year.many thought the timing of the Ray Lewis announcement was selfish but teammates and other great players around the league said he is a motivational genius and the timing of his announcement was just  in the nick of time giving the team a shot of adrenaline.during the playoffs the Baltimore team had some great wins one in particular was the game against the Denver broncos when they won in a second over time 38-35. after that they have defeated the new England patriots and made their way to super bowl 47. 

Super bowl 47 was the heavy weight title of the world with two teams that have lots of heart in one side..and lots of skill on the other..San Fransisco brought the skill with young quarterback Colin keapernick crushing opponents with his feet and rocked arm. and on the other side you have Flaco experience and cool attitude not falling under the pressure. this was also the first championship game in history where two brothers will play against each other, Jim and Jon Harbaugh the game had a blowing start to experience with ravens leading ha head at halftime with lots of points. but in the second half the 49ers got back to the action and almost made an unbelievable comeback but eventually lost the game 34 – 31 and Joe Flaco finally won his first super bowl ever and the super bowl MVP.

Born in 1966 Troy Aikman was a Dallas cowboys quarterback for twelve years and won three super bowls with them in his time with the team.he also got picked to the pro bowl six times in his career and was the super bowl XXVII MVP. there is no doubt that Troy Aikman is one of the best players that ever played the game of American football.

In college Troy Aikman played for the Oklahoma sooners under head coach Barry switzer but he did not get to play much there.after a hard ankle injury Troy Aikman was out for the season forcing the sooners head coach to replace him with quarterback Jamelle holieway . the team won the 1985 national championship that year and Jamelle went on to be the starting quarterback instead of Troy Aikman. after troy got better he decided to transfer to UCLA in chance of being the starting quarterback there. after transferring Troy Aikman was red shirted for one year but when he got a chance to play he killed it with a 20-4 record in two years. winning lots of awards and championships Troy Aikman led the UCLA to their to the aloha bowl in 1987 and he was third for the Heisman trophy that year. after a bruin win 17-3 in the cotton bowl that was played in Dallas cowboys stadium the fans name Troy Aikman as the cowboys next quarterback and soon after they got there wish.Troy Aikman was the number one pick in the 1989 NFL draft picked obviously by the Dallas cowboys.during troy rookie season he finished with a record of 0-11 not the best in all accounts but in his second season he led the cowboys to a 7-9 record loosing the playoffs seat by only one game.in 1991 now the third year of aikman with the Dallas he led the team to a 6-5 record before getting injured and missing the entire season. he returned to the NFC divisional playoff game against the Detroit lions but lost it 38-6. this was the first of straight six years that Troy Aikman was selected to the pro bowl. in 1992 everything was going right for troy and he led the cowboys to their first Superbowl win blowing away every team in the league and winning the buffalo bills. 52-17 troy was named super bowl MVP that year.in 1993 troy led the cowboys again to a division title and a trip to the super bowl where they meet the buffalo bills again and win 30-13 and their second super bowl win.in 1995 the cowboys made it to super bowl XXX and played the Pittsburgh steelers and won 27-17 this was Troy Aikman third super bowl title and from that point it was slowly the end of the this great quarterback career.the 2000 season was the last season troy played he left the cowboys leaving with records such as all time leading passer with 32,942 yards . 90 of his 94 career wins were in the nineties and were the most by any quarterback until manning broke that record.Troy Aikman is one of the most gifted players to ever play the game.

1: The new york mets offered Troy Aikman a contract when he was still in high school but wisely he declined and said he want be a football quarterback.

2: No one caught more passes from Troy Aikman then Michael Irvin. throwing to him 49 times and completing.

3 : the longest pass Troy Aikman ever completed was a 94 yards pass touchdown to Alvin Harper. troy is a hall of famer and his name will echo fir ages when talking about American football and Dallas cowboys football.

One of the very first American football games ever developed and of course in 2D. it was released in 1983 and its safe to say that it is the very first slightly realistic game in that genre. the game is played in a top down view with vertical scrolling.

4th & inches is an American football games classic. released for the PC this game has some improvements other the others like the ability to choose from a number of plays instead of just playing one play at the time. this was also possible in defence giving the game much more strategy and depth.
3 : Bill Walsh College Football

year : 1993

this game features 24 football teams and some historical teams as well. you can play a regular season mode , a playoff mode with 16 teams and another playoff mode with all the teams in the game including the historical ones.
4 : NFL 97

Developer : Sega

year : 1996

NFL 97 is a follow up American football game from Sega ” Joe Montana series. this game sold well in comparison with other American football games at that time but it did get a lot of poor reviews due to the games poor skill level and the fact that it was not in the same level of the generation video games.
5 : Madden NFL series

Developer : EA Sports

year : 1988 – until now

This is the most recognisable game in the American football games genre. EA sports started this game way back in 1988 and it was no match for the other games at that time it was only in the 1993 game that EA sports have bought the rights from the NFL to use the real teams names and logos and then the game toke off and left everyone behind.this series of games is the second best in point of sales only after the FIFA series from EA Sports as well.

6 : NFL Tour

Developer : EA Sports – BIG

year : 2008

NFL tour is a new game that the BIG division of EA Sports developed similar to the NBA street and NFL Street games that was released. the player to appear on the cover of this game was chosen by a fan vote and Shawne Merriman won the vote. the game suffered bad reviews that says it lacks depth and doesn’t take advantage of the game consoles full features.

7 : Tecmo Bowl – Kickoff

Developer : Tecmo

year : 2008

This is a surprising game in the American football games genre because it was released in 2008 which is not so long ago and you would expect a better game. the graphics and entire game skill is obsolete and just feels old.of course the other major downgrade is the fact that the teams names have been changed. why should someone buy or even play this game is a puzzle.

8 : ESPN NFL 2K5

Developer : Visual Concepts

year : 2004

The last NFL 2K game to be released. EA sports was shocked by the sales of this game so they made the NFL an offer they cant refuse and bought an exclusive license to be the only company that can use NFL logos and team names in a video game. while many thought this was illegal the NFL signed the deal and that put the last nail in the NFL 2K coffin.

9 : NFL

Developer : Gameloft

year : 2009

While we know EA sports have the exclusive deal with the NFL Gameloft developers has managed to sign deals with the players association that would give them the right to use some of the players names in the game. that was a nice touch but the critics killed this game due to lack of artificial intelligence.

10 : Fantasy Football

Developer : NFL

year : 1962

Way back in 1962 the Fantasy football league game was created . now days it is one of the most played games in the American football games genre. the game is played by each person forms an imaginary team with real players from around the league. then each team gathers points depending on the player performance in that week. NFL reports that since the Fantasy football game gain popularity in the 2000′s when the Internet exploded to the world it is now a major part of the real league and you can see actual players advertising them self in order to be picked by users.

The Dallas cowboys is maybe the most loved football team in the league. but they are the most frustrating team for sure.they always seem to have a near win that turns out to a lose, they always look like they are getting the most amazing comeback only to loose in the last seconds of the game. we can say what ever we want about the Dallas team. but we cant say they are not entertaining ! here are the cowboys images gallery for your pleasure.

Injuries in American football are a well known issue when it comes to this sport. but we want to get in to the mix and really give you an idea of how much American football injuries happiness almost every game and sometimes players can end a career with one single mistake or tackle.

The NFL has an injury report that all the teams in the league must report their injured players or suffer a big fine . when a player suffer an injury the medical stuff of his team will check him and decide the level of his injury by the scale of :

1 : Out ( will not play in the next game )

2 : doubtfull ( 25% chance of playing in the next game )

3 : Questionable ( 50% chance of playing in the next game )

4 : Probable ( 75% chance of playing in the next game )

but a lot of the times the teams manipulate their call to confuse other teams about their players health issues so when meeting them when they play the opposite team can not prepare in advanced according to the injury report.

1\2 : Sprain and strain injuries

A sprain or strain injuries are probably the most common american football injuries due to the massive effort players put on their muscles. it occurs when a ligament is being stretched beyond its capacity and it will usually torn, when that happens besides the pain the player will loose his mobility and will need a surgical repair to the muscle or ligament.

there are 3 classes of sprains and strains :

a : First degree sprain is where only a few fibers of the ligament have tears.

b : Second degree sprain is where a third or almost every fiber of the ligament are teared.

c : Third degree sprain is a complete tear of the ligament.

3 : Muscle Contusion

American football players suffer this injury a lot – most of the times it is a light injury that can heal quickly but sometimes it can cause problems and bench a player for a while. a muscle contusion is where tissues of the muscle are crushed due to a hard blow or impact. in hard cases blood can collect within a damaged tissue and beneath the skin bleeding can cause shock and may take months to heal.

4 : Fractures

Fractures can occur when players collide or when landing bad after a hard tackle. fractures can happen almost in every bone in the body so this American football injury is very common.

5 : Joint dislocation

This injury occurs when the bones in the joints are displaced or misaligned . it usually happens due to a sudden hard impact. American football players suffer this injury often because of the hard tackles that come with this game.

6 : Nerve injury

a nerve injury can occur from a fracture, laceration or pinching. our body is full of nerve fibers and when suffering from nerve damage these fibers can be turn or hurt. when one suffers a nerve injury he will loose the ability to move the body part that was attached to that nerve.the most likely body parts to be effected by a nerve injury are the arms and legs. there are three degrees of nerve injury :

Neurapraxia – the least severe nerve injury where the nerve structure remains intact and a full recovery can happen.

Axonotmesis – a more severe injury where the nerve fibers are somewhat turn or hurt. this will cause paralysis and
motion loss but still there is a possibility of recovery.

Neurotmesis – the most severe nerve injury where the fibers are turn completely and recovery is not likely.

7 : Torn cartilage

usually happens to the knees of American football players this injury is a season ending one. this happens when the knee joint bends the thigh bone and then the cartilage that gives the cushion between the two bones is nipped and torn. in some cases a knee surgery is needed to repair the knee but more light knee injuries just needs time to heel.

8 : Lacerations

this injury occur when the skin is tored or ripped apart by a result of a sharp object hitting the skin.

there are five types of lacerations :

a: Split lacerations – most commonly show up in the head , face , hands and legs this occurs when the skin or body is  crushed between two objects.

b: Over stretching – usually happens when an object is striking the skin in a way that he stretches it or pulling it making it stretch and brake.

c: Grinding – when an object hits the skin in an angle that peels the skin same as peeling a potato. this will result in the skin tearing and the tissue underneath to be damaged.

d: cut – the most common laceration . this will occur when any sharp object like a knife hit the skin causing it to tear or brake and sometimes the tissue under it .

e: Tearing – when an object is pushing the skin in two different ways the skin will tear.

9 : Concussion

a brain injury caused by a traumatic blow to the head or body. or any type of impact that will shake the brain inside the skull.this is the main issue in the past years to the NFL trying to limit these types of injuries .

Tony romo is the quarterback of an elite American football team. and he plays good. actually he plays really good but the one thing he cant seem to achieve is a championship ring. as it goes to singers or other artists in any field you need to have that x factor that makes you a star. tom Brady has it,Payton manning has it and some other great players around the league do. its that little thing you cant explained that makes you better then anyone else. makes you stand
out and at the bottom line win.

Tony romo in his personal life acts like a super star.when being around him you feel you are around a star and he sure show it. if its he’s romance of two years with pop star singer and actress Jessica Simpson or he’s recently shows on the radio station or even the former miss Missouri Candice Crawford to whom he is married to and have a child. for all that reasons you can say – hay , Tony romo is a super star. but the reality is very different.

although having  a very good record and rating as a quarterback, Tony romo has never won a championship , ever, he is 32 years old and he is playing professional football for the past 9 years. ever since 2003 and still he never reached the star level as like of other players who some are younger then he is.you could say a lot of things about this and I’m sure there are a lot of reasons why he never delivers. but my opinion is that he is just missing that x factor that stars have.

stars have an x factor that makes them shine and better themselves during crunch times. when the money balls are. and they usually win and comes up on top. Tony romo just fails. like all the time.at this stage of his career i don’t see an option where he becomes a champion and that is too bad for the Dallas cowboys because this club is an amazing team that deserve to be a top contender for the championship every year. i guess in the next year or so we will start
seeing them looking for Tony romo replacement and that would be the best thing that could ever happen to them.

Here are some crucial reasons why tony romo is not a good quarterback :

1 : being playing professional football since 2003 that’s nine years and never won a championship!

2 : plays golf during his off seasons. don’t get me wrong. there is nothing wrong with golf and that’s great that he likes other sports. but really? playing golf during your off season..man maybe you should focus on improving your quarterback skills so you wont throw so many interceptions instead of teaing it up with tiger woods. or just change sports altogether and play golf professionally.

3 : missing the x factor. you can see it on his face. when you look at a star you just see it. when looking at Tony romo you just don’t.

so maybe Tony romo is great at a lot of other things. but playing football isn’t one of them.

first lets understand how the whole nfl salaries mechanism works. players cant just get what they want and the league cant do what it want ever. so lets brake it down to lame terms.

the NFL uses a salary cap rule to help protect less fortunate teams and giving them a chance to sign big names hence making the game more fair and more interesting if you ask me. in short. a salary cap means that team a who has a budget of some billion dollars cant go and just buy the best players in the league and pay them a huge salary just so other teams cant use them.in some years this rule was a per player rule. and in other years it was a team rule. the salary cap rule was first formed in 1994 and was “only” 34 Million dollars. today is stands at 120 million. ( we all remember Michael Vick amazing contract of 80 million dollars. )

after understanding how the whole salarie thing works we can dive right in to the nfl salaries report.

Dwight freeney :

Dwight is a defensive end for the Indianapolis colts. his 2012 salary is 19 million dollars and part of his 2007 deal of 72 million dollars contract. he gets 14 million base salary and bonuses according to performance.

Elvis dumervil :

he is a defensive end for the Denver broncos and gets 18.9 million dollars for his pass rushing abilities. he signed a 61 million dollars contract with a 43 million guaranteed.

Peyton manning :

this old horse still has one of the highest paying checks in the league with an 18 million dollar salary and a five years contract worth 96 million dollars. manning plays for the Denver broncos as the quarterback.

Sam Bradford :

we all remember this amazing rookie quarterback of the st. Louis rams. his salary is 15.6 million dollars and he has a six years contract with the rams worth 78 million . he was the last rookie to be able to get such high paying contract before the new rookie wage rule was formed.
Philip rivers :

one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the league with a passer rating of over 100 until last year. he gets 15.3 million dollars for his arm and he still has four years left with the chargers.

jered Allen :

the most feared defensive end in the league for the Minnesota vikings. this guy salary is a 15.2 million dollars this guy never misses a game. he is mister durable.

Tamba Hali :

this defensive end of the Kansas city chiefs make 14.5 million dollars and he was picked in the first round back in 2006. starting in 95 of 96 games in his career he his surly worth the money. he signed a 57.5 million deal in 2011 for five years.

Michael Vick :

quarterback for the philadelphia eagles. his 2012 salary is 13.9 million dollars and he made his team pay a whooping 80 million dollars contract for five years with a 32 million guaranteed.

Trent Williams :

offensive tackle. plays for the Washington redskins. has a 13.4 million dollars salary with a 60 million contract for six years. but this guy is giving problems to his team with a suspension last year due to flunking a drug test and now fighting to recover from a bruised foot.

Larry Fitzgerald :

his team now how much hes worth and they gave him a 128.5 million dollars contract for eight years. he makes 13.25 million in 2012 . this is probably the most exciting wide receiver in the league and he plays for the Arizona cardinals.

topping this list of NFL salaries is no other the drew Bree’s :

with a record setting contract of 100 million dollars for five years! brees is the first player in NFL history to make 20 million dollars a season. and another record of getting 60.5 million guaranteed.

now you would thinks to find big names on this nfl salaries list like Brady. manning. romo. but that’s part of the who’s not list.

Tom Brady :

maybe the biggest superstar to ever come out of the football field gets 10 million dollars this year.

Aaron Rodgers :

the super bowl champion of 2010 is not so tough when it comes to contracts. he has a seven years deal with 64.9 million dollars. that’s not a lot for a super bowl champion. our guess is that he will get a new contract within the end of this year.

Eli manning :

although signing a great 97.5 million dollars contract for six years. you would think that the reigning super bowl champion could do better.
after the 2012 refs strike in the NFL they got a sweet deal receiving 200K salary each year.
